Abstract
First paragraph: As arguably the central and most contentious political question in contemporary policy discourse, global migration inevitably generates more heat than light. The January 2024 UK government proposals to provide ‘British houses for British workers’ (reported in the Guardian, 24/1/24), by allowing higher priority for UK citizens in housing allocations, illustrate the close interlinkages between migration, populist politics and housing policy.
