The long-term ambition of this project is to develop a comprehensive model of the factors facilitating and impeding optimal executive functioning throughout the lifespan. In a first step to achieve this ambitious model development the current project will focus on gaining an understanding of the mechanisms of one particular impeding factor: the role of chronic pain experiences. Building a comprehensive model of the underlying mechanisms in the relation between executive functioning and chronic pain will be achieved by investigating their mutual influences within a critical period of development, i.e. adolescence.
